COVID-19 Testing for Travel to China

TargetDx Laboratory work closely with the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China to ensure our reporting and documentations are compliant and meet all requirements for COVID-19 testing for travel to China. Requirements may change at any time as deemed by the general consulate and we will change our tests accordingly.

COVID-19 tests we offer for travel to China are:

1) COVID19 NAAT RT-PCR Test, Guaranteed Same Day Result ($150)

This is a COVID19 PCR test with guaranteed same-day results. This can be used for international travel (i.e., China, Japan, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, and more) or for other reasons (i.e., school, work, events). The COVID-19 viral test is PCR-based and looks for an active SARS-CoV-2 infection. This test determines if you are currently infected with SARS-CoV-2. Results are available the same day between 4 – 6 PM.

2) COVID19 NAAT RT-PCR Test, Guaranteed 3-hour Result ($220)

This is a COVID19 PCR test with results guaranteed in 3 hours.

What is the difference between PCR and Antigen Testing?

The PCR molecular test for active infection involves collecting swab specimens from your nose or throat depending on the specific test platform and uses nucleic acid amplification to detect infection. Laboratory-based nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) are considered the most sensitive tests for detecting SARS-CoV-2, and they can also be used to confirm the results of lower sensitivity tests.

The antigen test involves collecting a swab specimen from your nose. Antigen tests are much less sensitive than real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and other nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs). Antigen tests detects active, HIGH viral load SARS-CoV-2 infections.

From our internal collections, we see an estimated of 80% (or more) PCR positives that are not detected by Antigen testing done on the same day from the same individual. This is consistent in that Antigen testing requires HIGH viral loads for detection.

Therefore you can be positive on PCR (more sensitive and more accurate) and negative on Antigen (less sensitive and less accurate) on a same a day test.

We confirm all of our positive test results to ensure that results released are accurate.

NAAT RT-PCR COVID-19 Test and Mutations

Our molecular tests detect multiple (3) SARS-CoV-2 Targets and an MS2 phage and has a sensitivity and specificity of >99.9. We also have a rapid PCR test that detects E and N protein on the SARS-CoV-2. Since our tests is designed to detect multiple genetic targets, the overall test sensitivity should not be impacted by current variant mutations.

Are the words Serum, IgM, Venous blood (Venous) explicitly marked in the current test reports from TargetDx Laboratory?

Yes, the report explicitly states that our test detects Venous Serum or Plasma IgM, IgG, IgA, or IgM (only) or IgG (only).

Can the test reports also indicate specific testing methods including Colloidal gold, Chemiluminescence, Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay? If not the above three testing methods applied, can other specific method (Methodology) be indicated in the test reports?

The method used for our Antibody test method is an Immunoassay: enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) for combine IgM, IgG, and IgA; or Colloidal Gold (IgM only, IgG only).

The method for the Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) is Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR).

These are indicated on the reports.
