Each country, state and airline have their own requirements for travel. TargetDx COVID-19 PCR Viral Test results are accepted for most travel interstate and internationally. TargetDx Laboratory is currently not doing to testing for Hawaii travelers. Hawaii travelers must get tested with preferred lab vendors by the state of Hawaii.

If you are testing for China travel, please check out our China Travel FAQ.

Get tested with a viral test before you travel. Keep a copy of your test results with you during travel in case you are asked for them. Do NOT travel if you test positive.

Please check travel testing requirements by the country or state to which you are traveling. Below are some resources for travel information:

There are more sites for information. Please do your due diligence and check the testing requirements before traveling to a state, country, or through an airline.

When checking your junk folder, you may need to do a search for “targetdxlab”. You can also email info@targetdxlab.com.

What is the difference between PCR and Antigen Testing?

The PCR molecular test for active infection involves collecting swab specimens from your nose or throat depending on the specific test platform and uses nucleic acid amplification to detect infection. Laboratory-based nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs) are considered the most sensitive tests for detecting SARS-CoV-2, and they can also be used to confirm the results of lower sensitivity tests.

The antigen test involves collecting a swab specimen from your nose. Antigen tests are much less sensitive than real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and other nucleic acid amplification tests (NAATs). Antigen tests detects active, HIGH viral load SARS-CoV-2 infections.

From our internal collections, we see an estimated of 80% (or more) PCR positives that are not detected by Antigen testing done on the same day from the same individual. This is consistent in that Antigen testing requires HIGH viral loads for detection.

Therefore you can be positive on PCR (more sensitive and more accurate) and negative on Antigen (less sensitive and less accurate) on a same a day test.

We confirm all of our positive test results to ensure that results released are accurate.

NAAT RT-PCR COVID-19 Test and Mutations

Our molecular tests detect multiple (3) SARS-CoV-2 Targets and an MS2 phage and has a sensitivity and specificity of >99.9. We also have a rapid PCR test that detects E and N protein on the SARS-CoV-2. Since our tests is designed to detect multiple genetic targets, the overall test sensitivity should not be impacted by current variant mutations.

Does TargetDx have its own lab and where?

Yes, we have a collection and laboratory site located at 6541 Via Del Oro, Suite A and B, San Jose, CA 95119. Please go to Suite A for your appointment for a Collection. Additional site locations will be available on the schedule portal.

Our phone is 219-510-0120 and our email is info@targetdxlab.com

How do I get my test result(s)?

We will email a copy of your test result as an encrypted and password protected PDF file, as well as provide you with a patient portal for access. For china travelers, copies of the PDF reports are sent to the SF Chinese Consulate-General e-mailbox. Please make sure to check your spam and junk mail. If you have not received your results by 9 PM, please email info@targetdxlab.com or log-in to your patient portal to access your result.

Are the COVID-19 test reports for travel to China sent to the SF Chinese Consulate-General?

Copies of the PDF reports are sent to the SF Chinese Consulate-General e-mailbox at the request of the Consulate-General. This allows them to confirm the authenticity of the report submitted by the Traveler. If you choose the China travel package, you must provide permission to release your test results to the SF Chinese Consulate-General e-mailbox.

How do I make a travel test appointment? What do I need to bring to the appointment?

Appointments for travel testing can be booked online at www.targetdxlab.com. Click Book Your Test and follow the instructions on how to register. China Travel Package includes PCR and Antibody tests, documentation, and submission to the consulate at the appropriate turnaround times.

Make sure to complete your profile online, and upload your passport and vaccination record. Ensure that your information is accurate (i.e., name spelling, date of birth, gender, passport number, vaccination shots).

Are COVID-19 travel test covered by my insurance?

We do not accept insurance for travel testing, you will first need to pay out of pocket, and then ask your insurance to reimburse. You will need to check with your insurance provider to see if they will reimburse you for travel testing.

Can you provide the Antigen Test for China Travel?

Travelers need to do an Antigen test the day before the flight. An Antigen test report is not required when applying the health code. Airlines will inspect the original antigen reports before check-in or boarding. Either printed or electronic original report will be accepted, while the result must be “negative”.  We are approved for the Antigen test by the SF consulate.

Are the words Serum, IgM, Venous blood (Venous) explicitly marked in the current test reports from TargetDx Laboratory?

Yes, the report explicitly states that our test detects Venous Serum or Plasma IgM, IgG, IgA, or IgM (only) or IgG (only).

Can the test reports also indicate specific testing methods including Colloidal gold, Chemiluminescence, Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay? If not the above three testing methods applied, can other specific method (Methodology) be indicated in the test reports?

The method used for our Antibody test method is an Immunoassay: enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) for combine IgM, IgG, and IgA; or Colloidal Gold (IgM only, IgG only).

The method for the Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) is Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR).

These are indicated on the reports.
